Advice for Klang Gates hike
Dear new climbers,
This may sound funny, but if you could, it is advisable to cut your toenails before the hike. This is because as we know, "every up slope is followed by a down slope". You might feel the pain when your nails start hitting your shoe when you are traveling down.
"As we will be entering Mother Nature's domain, it will be like entering somebody else's domain; It is like we visiting a friend's house, and it is also like a friend visiting our house. We wouldn't want people to redecorate our house as they like; the Jungle wouldn't want us to redecorate her interior as we like too." -unknown

Good News
We'll be having our first major hike with juniors on 13th November. Gunung Besar Hantu is our destination. I promise you all this will be a great hike and it will be a perfect getaway for M109 because they just finish their EOS 2 around that time.
For m209, if you wish to be part of the hike, you MUST join the next two weekly trainings and our induction hike on Klang Gate (BUKIT TABUH). The next weekly training will be on THIS WEDNESDAY 28th Oct, 5.30pm. Attendance is compulsory for those who are interested in the major hike.
Don't worry about the hike, we'll provide you all adequate trainings that help you to survive on top of the mountain. And as usual, every week's training is different in nature. This week's training will offer you a chance to improve your core muscle strength and lactic acid tolerance level. So see you there, all the milers.

Sometimes, some of us may ask 'why do I run?' There are many answers to these question.
- One day you may come up and say because I needed a break from books and the air-condition in uni.
- Another day you may come because you've set your own target to accomplish something on that particular training day.
- The next week you may still come because your friends are coming.
- And.. soon, coming for training became your routine.
I believe, everyone has their own running pace. Some may run very fast, and some just cannot run as fast. Some, may run a marathon and still smiling, while some.. running 1km already kill them- gasping for more air.
Just like the above video, my personal motivational video, I believe, everyone can go beyond their limit. Every week as you come for the training, you accomplish something and be proud of it. You don't have to feel sorry and bad for running slow, but always remember at least you were there to try it out and that you did not give up. Perseverance is step 1. :)
Good luck to all that have registered for Mizuno Wave 2009! :) Together we come as Infinity Milers, we can do it!
GOGOGO!

Learn From These People
Hi, after Klang Pcer, I feel so compelled to write this post which can possibly serve as a reminder and a great encouragement for everyone who aspires to conquer 10k, 21k or even 42k in the future.
Runners are always plagued with injuries. All sorts of injuries are awaiting you if you overtrain or improper training technique is used. Since injury is inevitable, it's plausible to argue that we should never run to prevent those unwanted injuries. People who don't run seldom have knee problems.
However, I urge you to look at those Milers who still carried on running in spite of the stinging injuries. I'm not going to single out any individual particularly because we run as fast as the slowest ones. Our doctrines definitely do not include any personal glorification. But, I hope you all open your eyes. We have people who ran with bandage but still could go back to support fellow Milers even they already finished their own race. We also had Milers who suffered from old injuries sustained from other activities, and still heroically completed their 21k. Not to mention those who developed cramps intermittently during the race, and still, pulled themselves up and dashed to the finishing line.
Those are the people we should learn from. The never-say-die attitude is what Milers are made of. I'm not trying to glorify pain. On the contrary, I want everyone to be aware of the pain they can endure. Push to your own threshold and you'll know how far you can go. By doing that, arguably speaking, you can even prevent potential damage you do to your body due to overtraining.
Hence, are you prepared enough to learn from them? If you are not, prepare yourself now because they are the best runners.

you don't need a reason for everything
As I was having dinner with a few other college friends today at Bubba Gump today, I also watched a bit about the Forrest Gump story that they played on the LCD.
Then, it reminded me on what Jimmy had posted in the why-do-you-run.blogspot.com about Mr. Forrest.
- Forrest Gump
And, then Mr. Forrest ran for 3 years 2 months before he decided to go home. :)
Then, it reminded me on what Jimmy had posted in the why-do-you-run.blogspot.com about Mr. Forrest.
“That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd run to the end of town. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd just run across Greenbow County. And I figured, since I run this far, maybe I'd just run across the great state of Alabama. And that's what I did. I ran clear across Alabama. For no particular reason I just kept on going. I ran clear to the ocean. And when I got there, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well turn around, just keep on going. When I got to another ocean, I figured, since I'd gone this far, I might as well just turn back, keep right on going.”

When every step is agony
As the 7 June 21km draws near, I'm sure many of you will be feeling slightly jittery, nervous, and probably very unsure. Well, words of advice I have none, but here's what I read today, from an interview of a participant in the Adidas Sundown Ultramarathon:
Numerous participants admitted that they had harboured thoughts of quitting, but decided not to give up.
"Every step is agony," said Sim Li Bin, 30, who had no qualms taking off his left sock to reveal an inch-sized blister on the sole of his left foot.
"Blisters, chaffing, and cramps... but it's all worthwhile when you reach the finish line"

Are You Ready?
This is the question for you all who is going to conquer the 21k run on 7th June. Are you ready?
Is your training lagging behind? Is your body ready for that? These are not the questions i ask. Instead, I ask are you ready?
Why? Because no matter how unprepared you are physically, you must prepare yourself mentally, ok? and piece of advice, don't overtrain if you feel unprepared for the run. Overtraining will not yield any good but injury. So, just try to keep up with your training schedule or sandip's one. Don't feel bad if you can't follow that, but never stop trying.
-When you stop trying, you stop being good.-

training and a small request :)
Yo people! There will be no training next week since M109 are having term break and M208 are having EOS 2 in 1 week.
On a side note, our/my very dear MAPCU track and field team is facing a few hurdles now, with funding becoming an issue and many of the runners getting injured during training. Sandip, Arvinf and Minyi pulled their muscles and many of us are constantly bogged down by studies. So people! Do give them a pat on the shoulders, or a small encouragement note whenever you see members of the MAPCU training team. And just to name a few, they are
M109: Siobhan, Jiawei and Minyi
M208: Amirul, Arvinf, Kevin and myself :)
M108: Sandip, Jeremy Joseph, Joel, Joey
M207: Renyi and Rauf
M107: Zhiven
Pharmacy: Pang Tsen
and many many more! (If I didn't name you, take no offence please! These are just the few who really need the support now)
I must say I'm very proud of the team this year, their commitment to training is really superb; 4 trainings a week and they never complained. I love you people very much!

The Devil's Scheme.
See this people?
Note for those aiming to run 21km on 7th June, this is your training schedule by the kilometers. (+4) means you run an extra 4km after milers training every Wednesday. Credits goes to Sandip Singh Saggi, please say a huge thank you to Sandip next time you see him for drawing up this awesomely insane training schedule! :)
In any case, for all who signed up for 21km, please train up. 21km is honestly not something that should be taken lightly, especially if you're not yet a seasoned runner. You should be doing runs every other day just to be prepared :) 21km is gonna be tough not only on your physical body but also your mental capacity. So, TRAIN UP PEOPLE.
Least you can do is to come for Milers training huh? It's on, next Wednesday 5.30pm at the atrium. Be there, rain or shine!

Courage
The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I even had the courage to start -John Bingham
For some of you, this Sunday race will be your first ever 11k race in your whole life. It's ok to feel jittery, excited, slightly discouraged but always remember this quote from John Bingham whenever your self-doubt starts kicking in and threatening to derail your confidence.
It'll be a great feeling to complete a race. However, the courage that spurred you to join this race in the first place was something you much cherish. How many times in our life we just get cold feet in front of the obstacles? How many times in our life that we reach a crossroad but too scared to even continue?
You've made a right move by joining the race. Believe me, in the end of the day, you'll find yourself irreversibly changed by the race, no matter how fast or slow you complete the race. The passion will be burning in you, I say, for a very long time.
Let's give our best and to infinity and beyond.

Why Do You Run?
Run, run and run, why do people always run? A spartan ran all the way back to Sparta and died of exhaustion, just to deliver a message, he ran. Forrest Gump, out out the blue,he just decided to take up his running shoes and start running. Terry Fox, fighting with cancer and struggling with one prosthetic leg, he still ran. We run, during the welcoming party, during our free time, during boring lecture.
The question remains: Why do we run?
Everyone runs for a reason, a reason they believe in or a reason they themselves don't even know. Some people run for the records and the victory, namely the 100m sprinters. Some people run for health and some people simply run for the pure pleasure.
Do you have a reason to run?
In this weekend, I urge you all to muse about it whenever you are free. Just think about the raison detre of your determination to run. In the coming training which is on 25th March, I hope you all will come to your conclusion and share with us.
Have a nice weekend!
